Why we need a leader like Ronald Reagan

Today in America we find ourselves in a very similar situation to the one we were in right before the election of 1980. Our country is in an economic recession. And, like then, a Democratic president is the incumbent running for reelection.

What America needs right now is another Ronald Reagan. The difference that America went through during the transition from the Carter presidency to the Reagan presidency was incredible.

It was during the Carter presidency that Americans were taken hostage in Iran and held there for more than 400 days. President Carter could do nothing about this. Yet just over a week after President Reagan was inaugurated, those hostages were on a plane back to America. Why? Because the Iranians, along with the rest of the world, knew that President Reagan was not in office to play around. He meant business. He was not afraid to do what was right, no matter who disapproved. And he certainly did not apologize for America to our enemies and snub our most trusted allies.

Our country was also in an economic recession when President Reagan took office. The jobless rate for the latter end of President Carter’s term was around 6%; not nearly what it is today, but still high enough to be considered a recession. Ten years later it was at 5%. Not much lower, but it was an improvement. Americans had hope again. Today, our jobless rate is at nearly 10% and still rising.

Aside from all this was the fact that President Reagan just had a very energetic, strong aura about him. When people heard him speak they knew he had a commanding air about him that our allies trusted and our enemies feared.

This goes along with my post earlier about having strong leaders. President Reagan was a strong leader. That is what we need in the White House in 2012. A strong leader who will not apologize for America and will do whatever is possible to get rid of this recession.

On October 27th, 1964, Ronald Reagan said these powerful words:

“Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it on to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”

I truly believe that this is the generation that President Reagan was talking about. This is the generation where we truly have to fight to keep our freedom. Our military men and women are doing their parts, without question. There is nothing more we could ask of them. I mean that we at home need to do our parts as well. If we do not keep our government accountable, our freedom will be lost. That would be the worst thing in the history of our world as we know it. America is the last really “free” place in the world. This is where people come to achieve their dreams.

The entire world would be in an indescribable state of horror if the United States were no longer free. We need to work together to keep freedom for the next generation and many more to come.

If we could clone Ronald Reagan we’d be all set :)

We had to endure 4 years of Carter to get to Reagan…let’s see if the same thing is true in 2012.

    You are so right on the topic! Reagan was by far the best president the U.S.A has ever had and we need to find somebody like him to lead our country our of this hole we are in. Great job!!!
